Chapter 4 · Nakshatras
The Moon takes about 27 days to travel through the zodiac, so the sky is divided into 27 slices — each 13° 20'. Each slice is a nakshatra: a small, specific mood that shapes your emotional character.
Your Moon sits in one of these 27 slices at birth. That is your Moon nakshatra — the emotional signature that shapes how you receive the world. It's more specific than your sign, and often more accurate for the felt sense of who you are.
Each nakshatra has a presiding deity — the archetype behind the mood — and a ruling planet from the Vimshottari dasha system. That planet's mahādasha will be the first one you experience in life; its personality colours your early years quietly.
The 27 nakshatras cycle through a fixed sequence of nine ruling planets: Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rāhu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury. That sequence repeats three times to cover the full 27. This is the Vimshottari dasha order — the sequence in which each planet's period will visit you across a 120-year life.
So the nakshatra your Moon sat in at birth quietly decides the flavour of your entire life's dasha journey. It's a small fact with a very long shadow.
Open your chart. Look for the Moon's exact position — for example, Moon at 28° Pisces. Find that degree in the list above — which nakshatra does it fall in?
Now read that nakshatra's theme, deity, and ruler. Ask yourself: does this describe how you feel from the inside, at rest, when nobody's looking?
The ruling planet of your Moon nakshatra will be your first mahādasha — the seasoning of your childhood years.
